Position on major issues

Agriculture and rural policy

For food costs, Florida is second, only to California, in fresh vegetable production, and leads the U.S. in producing citrus (oranges and grapefruit), sugarcane, sweet corn, and watermelons. So why are WE paying so much? I want to work with our producers to see how we can expand connecting our residents to local growers, food sources, community gardens and supporting non-profits in the food scarcity and security sectors, as well as partnerships and incentives for consumer and retail programs.

Protect our Rural, Agricultural and Environmental Assets Our second largest industry in SRC is agriculture/farming, and our rural lifestyle and environmental resources continue to contribute to our local economy AND our Quality of Life. Agriculture is an economic engine for Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties, yet, rural communities in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties are also experiencing rapid land development, and urban sprawl which needs to be done with Smart Growth plans in place. Road maintenance and bridges are critical to getting products sold and transported, our families to their jobs, and our military to their posts, and several main roads need to be prioritized. And, I will work with our growers and rural residents on identifying and supporting diversified agritourism as well as direct-to-consumer opportunities. As a former landowner and producer, I understand the freedom that a rural lifestyle brings, and I want to hear and support the ways that will work for our counties, to maintain this critical sector.

Healthcare

For insurance, I've spent my career working with flood insurance, and as an executive working with health insurance. There are ways to fix this mess which include increased accountability, transparency, regulatory oversight, consumer programs, and larger reform policies.

And, social security and medicare need to be preserved. For those of us already retired, this is a critical part of the plans we designed for our retirement, and that we paid into with every paycheck. And for younger workers, a promise for the future that they are earning now. It needs to remain!

For home ownership, let's give our young families the opportunities we had to own a home and make home ownership affordable again.

Infrastructure and transportation

Veterans and active duty are a huge segment of our counties. There continues to be a housing shortage and lack of childcare available for our active duty that needs to be fixed, as well as transportation funds to fix our crowded roadways and bridges to help our military to get to their jobs. I want to work with existing groups to bring the resources and support to continue defending earned benefits, protecting the VA from privatization, and supporting a local VA hospital. Also, I promise I will never forget the families and children that also support and serve, and will make sure to advocate for policies and practices that support them, as well.

Veterans

As an Air Force widow, honoring our active duty troops and veterans by strengthening transition services, mental health care, and employment opportunities, as well as housing and childcare for our active duty, is a promise I will help us keep.
