Position on major issues

Abortion and reproductive policy

This Leftist view is a lie. There is no right to abortion in the Constitution.

grovesforcongress.com ·

These cases of abortion jurisprudence are constitutionally unjustified and pernicious. They prevent elected branches of government to address the needs of mothers, children, and families. Instead, mother and child are pitted against each other.

grovesforcongress.com ·

There is no right to privacy to commit murder. Indeed, conspirancy to commit murder is a crime. In my opinion, the best way to determine whether or not an action should be legal is to gauge its adherence to justice. It is blatantly unjust, however, to disregard the rights of human beings in utero.

There is no right to abortion in the Constitution. We are experiencing the bizarre spectacle that abortion is read into the Constitution where it doesn't exist, while explicit rights are questioned, particularly by the Left, e.g. the right to bear arms, the right to freedom of political speech, the right to retain property free from government seizure, freedom of religion.

As we are Libertarians, we acknowledge the official platform of our party concerning abortion: "Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on all sides, we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration." Further, "Libertarians also oppose the use of taxpayer funds or other government resources for abortion." While our party's platform is indirectly pro-choice, without using that term, our party will have to face forthcoming restrictions on abortion in many states, including in Florida where we live.

In conclusion, the constitutionality of abortion is based on interpretative overreach. Those of us who believe in the rule of law prefer close adherence to the text of the Constitution. This year (2022), it is likely the Supreme Court will uphold states' restrictions on abortion and, thereby, overturn Roe, as Norma McCorvey herself called for. We Libertarians, including those of us in Florida, will then be faced with a new legal and social context on the issue of abortion.

Criminal justice and policing

As a Congressman, Ralph Groves will work with Florida State Legislators to ensure that Washington will assist Florida. For example, he will ensure that the Environmental Protection Agency provides Florida with more grants for safe drinking water, e.g. to eliminate lead in water. In addition, he will ensure that Coast Guard funding is increased to enable response to hurricanes in Florida and will support keeping the Florida National Guard at home to help Floridians during crises. Further, he will push for the abolishment of the War on Drugs due to its failure to reduce illicit drug usage and its inherent disproportionate punishment of minority people.

Education

If gun-free zones were abolished, criminals would worry that armed citizens could be anywhere. With ubiquitous populardefense, some criminals would likely be deterred from killing innocent civilians. Similarly, in the states that allow teachers to be armed, there have been no school shootings (and no accidents or injuries caused by firearms possessed by teachers) – again proving that law-abiding citizens are not a problem.

Firearms policy

Having said all the foregoing, better gun-safety measures (mandatory safety courses) are advisable, at least to prevent accidents (e.g. accidental discharges) – analogous to drivers’ ed for car safety.

America has severe social problems that need to be addressed instead of more gun control legislation.

grovesforcongress.com ·

The U.S. Constitution’s 2nd Amendment codifies a pre-existing, natural right of self-defense, as upheld by the Supreme Court; a hypothetical repeal of the 2nd Amendment would be impossible to achieve. Gun confiscation cannot be accomplished, as it will provoke civil disobedience and perhaps armed revolt; the police will refuse to carry out gun confiscation.

grovesforcongress.com ·

Background checks could be useful to discern that some people – e.g. those with criminal records – should not be allowed to obtain guns via legal channels, but we should be aware that such people could obtain guns illegally – as most criminals do. Background checks will never be comprehensive, however, as medical records are confidential. Prospective gun confiscation and repeal of the 2nd Amendment will provoke either civil disobedience, violent disobedience, or a revolt.

According to the Crime Prevention Research Center, 97.8 percent of all mass public shootings have occurred in gun-free zones.

This monograph makes the following points for policymakers to consider: America’s social problems – caused by fractured communities as well as the decline of family cohesion and morals – are the underlying causes of “gun violence”, not widespread gun ownership. The overall “gun violence” statistic is misleading, as only a small percentage of deaths caused by firearms are murders. Most are suicides. The USA’s suicide rate, despite the availability of guns, is lower than the rate in some other countries (such as Japan). Prescription medications and “gun-free zones” are contributory factors to mass shootings. Expanded background checks will not keep guns out of the hands of criminals and gang members; in any case, such checks will be inexact as not all records about people are available to adjudicators. Meanwhile, criminals and gang members will continue to obtain guns by theft and in black markets – thereby circumventing background checks. There is no correlation between armed civilians and crime, as the examples of Israel and Switzerland show. Most armed civilians, including concealed-carry permit holders, are law-abiding citizens who exercise their natural right to self-defense. They deter crimes – including crimes against humanity; they assist police and could prevent mass shootings if “gun-free zones” were abolished.

Healthcare

In Washington, Ralph Groves will also strive to prevent tyrannical vaccine mandates as a response to future pandemics.

National security and foreign policy

Overseas experience: During Army and DOD duties, he served in Germany and the United Kingdom as well as in West Africa and Armenia (formerly a republic of the Soviet Union); In addition, he travelled throughout Europe, southern Africa, Singapore, Australia & New Zealand. Based on first-hand knowledge, he will tackle issues such as reducing U.S. military deployments overseas while promoting fiscal responsibility and government transparency to restore trust in the Federal Government by citizens of Florida’s 11th Congressional District.

He is on a new Libertarian Party team that supports the social tenets of the historic Democratic Party (not the current Democratic Party), such as enactment of Social Security, and the economic policies of the Republican Party, such as calling for lower taxes.
