Position on major issues

Artificial intelligence

Responsible AI that works for people, not against them. Smart innovation with common-sense guardrails, for good, not for bad. It's that simple.

AI is the future. The rules we write for it right now will set the tone for decades. I want Florida to get this right, and I want Manatee County out in front instead of playing catch-up. That means doing two things at the same time. Everyone should have real access to what AI can offer, and that includes our students, our teachers, and our small businesses. At the same time, we need honest guardrails so AI cannot be twisted into a tool for scams, manipulation, or harm. Your privacy has to be protected too. My goal is to file bills that give Manatee County and Florida residents access to the very best AI technology while keeping us safe from the very real problems it can create. Access and protection. Not one or the other. ✓Put real AI tools and training in the hands of students, teachers, and small businesses. ✓Protect personal privacy with clear limits on what AI can collect and how it can use it. ✓Set firm rules and real consequences so AI cannot be used to deceive or hurt people.

Criminal justice and policing

Back our police, firefighters, EMTs, nurses and doctors. We take care of them and they'll take care of us.

He believes in lower taxes, safer streets, strong families, personal responsibility, and in getting government out of the way of hardworking people.

Plain and simple. Our first responders work some of the hardest jobs on the planet, and they need the best tools, equipment, and technology to do them well. They also need to be paid and taken care of properly. Not just while they are on duty, but after their service is over too. Period. If we make sure our police, firefighters, EMTs, nurses, and doctors have everything they need to take care of us, then that is exactly what I want to do. We take care of them, and they will take care of us. That is the whole deal. ✓Fund modern equipment and technology for police, fire, and EMS. ✓Fair pay, real benefits, and support that continues after the badge comes off. ✓Back the nurses and doctors carrying the other half of this load.

Economy, jobs and wages

From IMG Academy and Pirates spring training to our beaches and the new public sports complexes, recreation fuels our local economy. I'll champion the fields, facilities, and small businesses that keep Manatee County and Florida winning.

Education

Put families first with strong schools, real fitness, competitive sports programs for all ages, and an education that prepares kids for the future in schools that stay open and honest with families.

Times change, and our schools have to change with them. What worked twenty years ago will not carry our kids through the next twenty. My goal is simple and I am not going to shrink it. I want the kids of Manatee County and Florida to be the best educated, most well-rounded, and healthiest students in the entire country. Getting there takes future-proofing. I will push for systems and policies that put Florida education ahead of the curve, built to still hold up decades from now. And through all of it, families stay informed and included. No decision about a child should happen behind a closed door. ✓Future-proof school programs so what kids learn still matters the day they graduate. ✓Keep real fitness and competitive sports in every school, at every age. ✓Keep schools open and transparent with families about what kids are learning.

Sports tourism is a huge economic engine for Manatee County and for Florida. But sports do more than move money. They shape kids, families, and whole communities. I will fight to make sure Manatee County has the funding it needs to keep sports in our schools, and to keep sports a priority for everyone who lives here. That starts by taking better care of what we already have, like LECOM Park and our parks and recreation facilities. Then we keep building. From IMG Academy and Pirates spring training to our beaches and the new public complexes, recreation feeds our local economy every single week. I want to keep adding first-class community facilities that any family here can walk into and use. ✓Protect the funding that keeps sports and fitness in Manatee County schools. ✓Invest in what is already here: LECOM Park, public fields, parks and recreation. ✓Keep adding top-quality community and public complexes open to everyone.

Housing

Owning, keeping and enjoying a home shouldn't be so hard. Extreme taxes, inflated insurance premiums and the influx of Short Term Rental investment properties have become a real problem for locals.

hoolihanforflorida.com ·

Buying a home, keeping a home, and enjoying your home have all gotten close to impossible for too many families here. Property taxes climb every year. Insurance premiums have gotten unrealistic and, frankly, unfair. And short-term rental investors buy up houses on our streets, then take no responsibility for the problems their guests leave behind for the neighbors. Someone has to step up and get this under control. My plan is straightforward. Make homes easier to buy for qualified buyers. Make homes realistic to keep by going after property taxes and insurance costs. And make homes something you can actually enjoy by regulating how many short-term rentals can be bought, sold, and operated in any one area. ✓Open the door for qualified local buyers instead of out-of-state investors. ✓Bring down the cost of keeping a home by attacking property taxes and insurance premiums. ✓Limit how many short-term rentals can operate in a neighborhood, and hold owners accountable for their guests.

Infrastructure and transportation

Responsible, accountable area growth that respects us all. A real community needs the right infrastructure, local activities and sports, and real support for the people and small businesses who live, work and play here.

hoolihanforflorida.com ·

Our state, our county, our cities, and our neighborhoods are changing fast. I want Manatee County to grow responsibly, in a way that makes life better for the residents and communities that are already here. To me that means two things. Residents should be kept informed, early and clearly, about what is happening around their community and how it will affect them. And people should have a real voice in growth decisions, not a comment card after the plans are already approved. A real community also needs the right infrastructure, local activities and sports, and honest support for the small businesses that make this place ours. ✓Clear, early notice to residents about development coming near their homes. ✓Give neighborhoods a real say before growth decisions are made, not after. ✓Match new growth with the infrastructure, activities, and small business support it demands.
