Position on major issues

Artificial intelligence

Angie believes in protecting your privacy and ending mass surveillance. Across the country, communities are pushing back against the rapid, unregulated spread of AI-powered surveillance technology — including automated license plate readers (ALPRs) like those sold by Flock Safety. These systems can track every vehicle that passes a camera, building a searchable record of where people go, when, and how often. That data can end up in the hands of federal immigration agents, out-of-state law enforcement, or bad actors — often without a warrant, without public knowledge, and without meaningful oversight. I believe you shouldn’t have to choose between public safety and your right to privacy.

angienixon.com ·

Civil rights and freedoms

Protect Vulnerable Communities from Targeting. Surveillance systems have a documented history of disproportionately impacting immigrants, communities of color, and political dissidents. Any federal framework must include explicit protections against discriminatory use and misuse for political or retaliatory purposes.

angienixon.com ·

Restoring and expanding the Voting Rights Act, including automatic voter registration for every American over 18, and ending racist voter suppression and burdensome voter ID laws.

angienixon.com ·

Angie believes in combatting anti-blackness, anti-semitism, Islamophobia, Nativism, transphobia, and all forms of hate.

angienixon.com ·

Hatred rooted in identity — whether directed at someone’s religion, race, gender or immigration status — has no place in American life. But hate is not a single, undifferentiated force. It takes distinct historical shapes and requires leaders who understand those differences. As a candidate for the United States Senate, I am committed to fighting antisemitism, Islamophobia, anti-immigrant hate, anti-Black racism and all forms of discrimination with the specificity and seriousness each demands, and to standing against hate crimes of every kind.

angienixon.com ·

Real History in Our Schools. Support federal funding incentives for states and school districts that teach comprehensive history. Oppose federal or state efforts to ban books, censor curricula, or punish teachers for teaching accurate history, while supporting age-appropriate standards developed by educators and historians rather than political appointees.

angienixon.com ·

Hate Crime Enforcement. Support robust funding and enforcement for laws addressing hate crimes targeting. Ensure law enforcement agencies have training to recognize and respond to antisemitic, anti-Palestinian, Islamaphobic, anti-Black, anti-Immigrant and all threats and violence.

angienixon.com ·

Safe Campuses and Communities. Ensure all students and community members can engage in public life, including on college campuses, free from harassment, intimidation, or violence — while protecting the rights of all students to engage in political speech and protest, including on Israel-Palestine.

angienixon.com ·

Criminal justice and policing

Angie believes in supporting human dignity, ending mass incarceration and deportation. The US has the largest policing, incarceration and deportation system in the world. Millions of people — disproportionately Black, brown, and poor — are locked in cages or living in fear of a knock on the door, while corporations get rich off their suffering. This is not about safety. It is about control and profit. I don’t believe any person is illegal, and I don’t believe human beings should be treated as commodities in a system built to punish rather than to heal. Real safety comes from good jobs, strong schools, affordable housing, and healthcare for all — not from more cameras, more cages, and more agents tearing families apart. It is time we had the courage to say it plainly: mass incarceration and mass deportation are moral failures, and I will fight in the United States Senate to end them.

Ending mass incarceration, including federal decriminalization of marijuana and investment in treatment over incarceration for substance use.

angienixon.com ·

Ending for-profit prisons and detention centers

Requiring warrants for Surveillance Data Access. Law enforcement should not be able to search months of a person’s movements without judicial oversight. I will fight for federal standards requiring a warrant before ALPR or similar location data can be accessed in most circumstances.

Re-enfranchising Americans with felony convictions, restoring voting rights to the millions of Americans who have served their time and deserve to have their voice back.

Economy, jobs and wages

Standing With Workers A union organizer who'll fight for the Working Families Guarantee.

angienixon.com ·

In the State House, Angie has been a leading champion for working and middle class Floridians—from expanding childcare for thousands of families; to stopping a major grocery chain from gouging their prices; to leading the resistance to DeSantis’s unfair voting maps.

angienixon.com ·

Expanded childcare and took on corporate price-gouging in the State House

angienixon.com ·

Angie will fight for the Working Families Guarantee Medicare for All Free Childcare Free Paid Family and Sick Leave A National Rent Freeze and Moratorium on Evictions A universal jobs program with inflation-adjusted wages How will we pay for it? Tax the billionaires so that everyone pays their fair share Prioritize the needs of everyday Americans instead of spending trillions on war and violence overseas Get big money out of politics

angienixon.com ·

Angie believes in Universal Child Care & Pre-K. Child care in America costs more than college tuition in most states. As a mom of 5, Angie knows this struggle deeply because she is experiencing it. Angie will fight for: Universal, high-quality child care and pre-kindergarten for every family, regardless of income, capping costs so no family pays more than a small share of their income. Living wages for child care and early-childhood educators, who are among the most underpaid workers in the country despite doing some of its most important work. Universal school meals so no child goes hungry during the school day.

angienixon.com ·

Angie believes in quality Public Education. Getting an education in America shouldn’t mean a lifetime of debt. About 43 million Americans now owe nearly $2 trillion in student loan debt. That’s about $43,500 per borrower, meaning people owe more for simply trying to get an education than they do on their cars or credit cards. A degree that was once a ticket to the middle class has become a financial trap for millions of families, forcing young people to delay buying a home, starting a family, or saving for retirement just to keep up with payments on an education they were told they needed to get ahead. It’s not a personal failure; it’s the predictable result of a system that treats higher education as a private commodity instead of a public good. Angie will fight for: Tuition-free public college and trade school, and canceling student debt. Fully funding public K-12 schools and increased teacher wages Expanding vocational and apprenticeship programs that lead directly to good union jobs.

angienixon.com ·

Angie believes in standing with workers & unions. For too long, corporations have rigged labor law against working people. Angie was a labor organizer and will fight for the dignity of all workers. Angie will fight for: Passing the PRO Act to make it easier to form a union and harder for corporations to bust one. Paid family and medical leave for every worker in America, guaranteed by law. Raising the federal minimum wage to a real living wage, indexed to inflation, for every worker, including immigrant and incarcerated workers. Ending “right to work” laws and extending labor protections to workers historically excluded from them, including farmworkers and domestic workers. Protecting pensions and Social Security, and expanding benefits rather than cutting them. Fighting outsourcing and trade policy that has hollowed out American manufacturing towns

angienixon.com ·

A bold, union-built transition to renewable energy, creating millions of good-paying, union jobs in wind, solar, and grid modernization, prioritizing the frontline communities that have borne the brunt of pollution for generations.

Cracking down on corporate price gouging in groceries, housing, and health care, where record corporate profits have tracked closely with what families are paying at the register.

Elections and voting

angienixon.com ·

Led the fight against DeSantis's unfair voting maps

angienixon.com ·

When a handful of billionaires can spend hundreds of millions of dollars to influence an election and the average person gets one vote, that’s not a democracy for the many, but a corrupt government working for a few. Angie will fight to make this country a real democracy, so that this government works for all of us, not just the wealthy elite

angienixon.com ·

Overturning Citizens United so corporations and billionaires can no longer buy elections with unlimited, often secret spending.

angienixon.com ·

Abolishing super PACs and imposing real contribution limits. I suppor the Abolish Super PACs Act which would cap super PAC contributions at $5,000 — replacing today’s unlimited-money free-for-all with public financing that amplifies small-dollar donors instead of billionaire donors.

angienixon.com ·

Restoring and expanding the Voting Rights Act, including automatic voter registration for every American over 18, and ending racist voter suppression and burdensome voter ID laws.

Energy

A bold, union-built transition to renewable energy, creating millions of good-paying, union jobs in wind, solar, and grid modernization, prioritizing the frontline communities that have borne the brunt of pollution for generations.

angienixon.com ·

Rebuilding and hardening the electric grid, so it’s resilient, affordable, and ready for a clean-energy future

angienixon.com ·

Billionaire fortunes have exploded over the past few years while working families fall further behind on rent, groceries, and medical bills. Florida is home to more billionaires than almost any other state and meanwhile, everyday Floridians are struggling more than anyone with housing costs, healthcare cuts, job loss and inflation. Angie believes we can afford Medicare for All, universal child care, and a clean-energy future. What we can’t afford is letting the richest people in the country keep paying less in taxes than a nurse or a line cook.

angienixon.com ·

Environment and climate

The climate crisis is an existential threat, and the fossil fuel industry has spent decades lying about it while cashing in. Angie rejects the false choice between good jobs and a livable planet.

Government reform

Transparency and Public Accountability. Communities deserve to know when surveillance systems are installed, who has access to the data, how it’s used, and how often it leads to shared information with outside agencies. I support requiring public reporting and independent audits for any federally funded surveillance program.

angienixon.com ·

Angie believes in housing you can actually afford. Rent is too high, homeownership is out of reach for millions, and Wall Street landlords are buying up housing stock and squeezing renters to enrich themselves. Florida is getting hit the hardest, and is now the worst state in the country for renters. On top of this, Florida homeowners now pay some of the highest insurance premiums in the nation — often as high as $10,000 a year — nearly three to four times the national average. Housing is a human right, not a speculative asset for the billionaire class. Angie will fight for: Massive investment in permanently affordable housing, building millions of new affordable units nationwide. A national rent stabilization standard, just-cause eviction protections, and the right to counsel in eviction proceedings. Cracking down on corporate landlords and Wallstreet speculators buying up single-family homes and driving up rents. Expanding Section 8 vouchers so every eligible family can access one without languishing on a waitlist. Federal action on the property insurance crisis, including reinsurance backstops and stronger consumer protections, so Floridians aren’t priced out of their own homes by an insurance market that keeps failing them. Disaster resilience funding to harden homes against hurricanes

Immigration

“The federal government has launched unjustified, unprovoked, and unbridled attacks on grandparents, mothers and fathers, aunties and uncles, nieces and nephews, and innocent children simply because they are Haitian. It is inhumane and immoral to advance policies that destabilize another country and then, when the people seek refuge on American soil, deny their asylum and send them back where they will languish, suffer, and possibly die. “Let’s call Ashley Moody’s statement what it is: pure hypocrisy. She claims to support a ‘fair and proper’ process, yet she blindly backs the Trump administration’s indiscriminate mass deportations, stripping protections from long-term residents and ignoring basic due process. Targeting the Haitian American community is grounded in prejudice, not law enforcement, and Senator Moody’s attempt to hide behind boilerplate rhetoric is a slap in the face to communities across Florida. “Ashley Moody is line-item aligning herself with Donald Trump’s cruelest policies while doing absolutely nothing to fix our broken system or address the real issues Floridians face every day. Mass deportations do not create jobs, lower costs, or help working families. Instead of addressing healthcare or economic relief, unelected Senator Moody is busy cheering on extreme anti-immigrant agendas and deflecting from real accountability. Florida deserves a senator who solves problems, not a politician who peddles hypocrisy and preys on vulnerable communities.”

Abolishing ICE and rebuilding immigration enforcement from scratch. Since its creation in 2003, ICE has operated with almost no accountability — and that’s escalated into real tragedy, including U.S. citizens killed by federal immigration agents during enforcement surges in cities like Minneapolis. Angie believes an agency that has repeatedly shown it cannot be trusted with the power it has should not be reformed at the margins — it should be dismantled, with any legitimate immigration enforcement function rebuilt under new, accountable civilian oversight, due process protections, and a mission that reflects American values instead of terror tactics.

angienixon.com ·

Local control

Local Control and Consent. Decisions about whether to deploy surveillance technology in a community should involve real public input — not be made unilaterally by a mayor’s office or a single department. I support requiring community consent processes before new surveillance contracts are signed or renewed with federal support.

A 5% annual wealth tax on billionaires. I support Senator Sanders’ Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act, which would apply only to net worth above $1 billion — hitting fewer than 1,000 people in the entire country. Independent economists estimate it would raise roughly $4.4 trillion over ten years without raising taxes by a single dollar on anyone worth less than $1 billion.

angienixon.com ·

Taxing capital gains the same as wages, so a billionaire’s stock portfolio isn’t taxed at a lower rate than a worker’s paycheck.

angienixon.com ·

Closing the loopholes that let profitable corporations pay $0 in federal income tax, including offshore tax havens and the “stepped-up basis” loophole that lets fortunes pass tax-free from one generation to the next.

Technology and privacy

Angie believes in protecting your privacy and ending mass surveillance. Across the country, communities are pushing back against the rapid, unregulated spread of AI-powered surveillance technology — including automated license plate readers (ALPRs) like those sold by Flock Safety. These systems can track every vehicle that passes a camera, building a searchable record of where people go, when, and how often. That data can end up in the hands of federal immigration agents, out-of-state law enforcement, or bad actors — often without a warrant, without public knowledge, and without meaningful oversight. I believe you shouldn’t have to choose between public safety and your right to privacy.

angienixon.com ·

angienixon.com ·

Mandatory Data Deletion Windows. Indefinite retention of everyone’s movements — regardless of suspicion — is not acceptable. I will push for federal guidelines requiring surveillance data to be deleted within a short, defined window (in line with state laws that already require deletion within weeks) unless it is tied to an active investigation.

angienixon.com ·

Transparency and Public Accountability. Protect Vulnerable Communities from Targeting. Surveillance systems have a documented history of disproportionately impacting immigrants, communities of color, and political dissidents. Any federal framework must include explicit protections against discriminatory use and misuse for political or retaliatory purposes.

Local Control and Consent. Decisions about whether to deploy surveillance technology in a community should involve real public input — not be made unilaterally by a mayor’s office or a single department. I support requiring community consent processes before new surveillance contracts are signed or renewed with federal support.
